I also ordered a small side of vegetables. The vegetables were abundant.cabbage, carrot, broccoli and zucchini, all cooked perfectly. The noodles were basic ramen egg noodles. (It was weird to have pieces of beef floating in chicken broth. (I personally love spice and a little more salt-I'm a huge pho fan, but I digress).Īlso, I should point out that the broth is obviously chicken broth. I think that would be good for people who don't want too much salt, because otherwise the flavor was okay-definitely not dishwater like I've had at other places. I wouldn't say my broth was weak, it definitely had a sheen of fat and was pale yellow, but it wasn't very salty. It comes in a quart-sized Styrofoam container. If you look up and wave the friendly cook will look up and smile and wave back at you. There is also a glass case that runs along the counter so you can see many of the pre-cooked food choices. There is a cute (and very clean) fish tank build into the front counter, a self-serve coke-machine, plenty of straws, napkins, etc., and the kitchen is open concept, so you can watch them make your food. The counter curves around and goes the length of the place. There are lively paintings on the wall - one very big one of a simple red and gold dragon, but it feels more modern than, suppose, a place that hauls in all those ancient looking wood carvings and traditional heavy painted panels. The garbage is next to the door with a place to put your trays on top when you're done eating, so I suppose they want you to bus your own table (we did, no problem). up in the corner so you can watch while you eat, but they have it on low with sub-titles, so it doesn't distract. Not huge, but rather than just a counter there were plenty of tables to sit at to eat. When we walked in the place was bigger than I though it would be. He liked it and asked me to join him for lunch this afternoon.

Well, my husband loves take-out and told me that he had gone in once when I was out all day doing something else. I was wrong, and we will definitely go back there.

From the parking lot it looked dark, like your typical, average hole in the wall Chinese take-out place. We've been in this town nine months or so and never went in, probably because it is in a strip mall next to Fry's, and the parking lot is congested around there. I cannot recommend the Red Dragon Express. We were very disappointed to say the least. I was almost tempted to return the food and offer a short course in Chinese cooking. The Spring Rolls were cold and filled with shredded cabbage. The twice-cooked pork was thick and chunky - and obviously three or more times cooked. There was, however, an abundance of cabbage that was cut in large chunks. There were no traces of mushrooms, Bok Choy, broccoli or onions. Carrots were diced, celery was cubed whereas traditional Chinese cuisine calls for thin slices cut on the bias. The vegetables were not cut in the traditional Chinese manner.

The taste was more like southern Indian Vindaloo. The Kao Pao Shrimp was far too spicey as was the twice-fried pork. The food, however, was not what we expected. When we returned home the food was nicely packaged, the extras (fortune cookies, etc) were in their packages. Two Asian cooks were busy indicating a busy night. The counter service was cheerful and I happened to catch a glimpse intot he kitchen. My companion and I ordered from the RD's menu the other evening. I am always reluctant to write a poor preview but we must call a spade a spade and the Red Dragon take-out earned one.
